The John Jay Homestead opened a new special exhibit,From Oppression to Freedom:John Jay’s Huguenot Heritage on December 4,2009.John Jay,one of the founders of the United States,served as the first Chief Justice of the United States,drafted the New York Constitution,was Governor of New York and negotiated the Treaty of Paris as well as the Jay Treaty with Great Britain.The text of my remarks for the opening is available here:From Oppression to Freedom:John Jay’s Huguenot Heritage.
